Grats to all the winners and honourable mentions, I enjoyed browsing this year's contributions. I'm glad these art contests exist to showcase Guild Wars art from all over the world. A lot of great submissions didn't place at all, but this is what it's like every year. Better not take it to heart, because you're not alone and there's always a next time.
I thought this design and this idea were really creative. Remember that you can click to view the images full size.
EDIT again: Anyone know the story behind this? Looks like the characters from Ghosts of Ascalon? I want to say Edge of Destiny instead, but the blonde norn woman makes me wonder.

I liked the second place and the OPs costume more than the winner.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the kind words
@Acehole2006:
There have been other Ritualist dress-ups/cosplayers as winners besides the one you linked. If mine didn't win simply because "there have been other Rit cosplayers before" and the quality of the craftsmanship and photomanipulation was ignored in favor of the above mentioned reason, that's pretty sad and unprofessional.
I honestly don't know what the reason is, but I have sent a message to Regina asking her to please confirm that my entry email was received. I gave her my email address so she could just search on it in her email box and find it in 30 seconds.
Since contestants don't get an automated email response back that their entry was received, everyone who didn't place must have that question go through their mind, whether Anet received them at all?
I will keep an eye on my incoming messages for her answer.
Thank you all again for liking my pic

Indeed your right, it wouldent be right as you can clearly see the effort put in your creation. Maybe they feel your costume was not up to the standard of their costumes they have created lol.
I would guess they did recieve it and will reply with something like.... because of the sheer volume of submissions we recieve we can only pick out the 1's that jump out at us etc etc.
But still why was yours still forgotton..... can only think of the reason i stated, perhaps there looking for something new away from costumes. Notice there is not 1 costume in the list this time and perhaps when they said ART contest they literally meant ARTWORK...... thing is some might consider what you have done as "art", me included.

There were a couple craft entries that won, though (like, first and second place). As well as the celestial jingle bear entry.
And of course costume-making is art.

It's encouraging to see that almost all of the winners and honourable mentions are actually Wintersday themed instead of simply being like Minami's cosplay outfit submitted to any Guild Wars contest. My personal view is a contest titled the "Wintersday Art Contest" should exclusively reward entries that have a Wintersday theme as a primary focus for the core of the work... not just a snow photo shop done on what is not a Wintersday ritualist but a normal ritualist cosplay.
It's discouraging to see that the winning entry, although it is a high quality production, does not appear to have any obvious connection to Wintersday at all, especially seeing as all the other entries listed do have one. Again I would like to see people who created art work specifically for this contest and themed it appropriately take out top awards instead of simply rewarding talented people who have created some kind of Guild Wars themed art work that has little to no relevance to Wintersday or the event taking place yet is still impressive quality.
Having said that, I liked most of the winners and honourable mentions, which I don't remember thinking last year. There were some good Wintersday entries in there.

Blind? The backround of Minami's is pefectly aligned with Wintersday, since, well it is snow and a trees with lights on it?
Back on topic I also think that although the winners entry is very cool and had to of taken a long time in making it some of the other entries were much more amazing and should have won instead(including Minami's, which IMO was very cool(xD)).

Whilst I don't wish to "do down" her entry, I followed it in the thread and looked over her galleries and thought it deserved to place at least Honorable Mentions, I think that shopping her actual entry (the costume) onto a Wintery background fulfils the Wintersday criteria as well as the entries that were listed (except maybe the winner O.O)
I mean, it's entirely possible to shop that costume onto another background and enter it for Halloween.

I read somewhere a long time ago, possibly on Gaile's wiki talk page, that a group of people come up with a shortlist then they put all these entries up in the office and members of staff are invited to mark their approval in some way or another and whoever gets the most votes wins.
No idea if they still do it like that but they did for at least one art/design-a-weapon contest.

Bottom of their release page they says: Note: All judging was done on a "blind judging" basis, where those involved did not know anything about the contestant, including name, location, gender, or age.

First of all, Minami's costume/entry was well done and I would have chosen it over some of the other entries, but comments like these make me think that other people are arguing for it just because the skinny girl in a skimpy outfit gives them a woody. Would people be arguing for it as much if it were a male ritualist? Christmas presents around the Charr sack doll are just as Wintersday themed as the rit costume in the snow and next to a Christmas tree.
I'm thinking it may not have placed just because of the amount of cosplay they see at all the conventions they go to. They may just be getting tired of it.
Personally, I liked this one the best though I don't know what the white tiger has to do with Wintersday.
